| Coaching
kicks but … |
No, that is not a spelling mistake. How often
do you find yourself saying something like: “I
would have done it but …”? And how often
do you then feel you let yourself down? Most people
have perfectly good reasons for not achieving what
they would like to achieve – for allowing
the “but” to get in the way; the majority
also often regret not achieving their goals while
feeling unable to do so.
We’ll help you kick the “but”
habit to achieve what you want to achieve.
Coaching takes people from where they are now to
where they want to be, despite themselves. It helps
people identify the reasons why they make excuses
not to do or act in a particular way – and
shows them how to change their approach to achieve
their real ambitions.
It follows the same principal as personal training.
While some people can identify, fix and achieve
goals on their own; others need someone –
in sport, a personal trainer; in work or life, a
coach – to help them map out a plan, push
them forward and chase them up if they start “slacking
off”. You might be able to reach your goal
without a coach but with a coach you can get there
quicker and much more effectively.
Coaching is for people who want to challenge themselves
and to move out of their comfort zone, to be inspired
to make decisions and take actions to improve themselves
and their situation. |

| What does
coaching depend on? |
| Coaching is a supportive, mutually respectful
way of looking in detail at your current situation,
considering how you would like that situation to
change and supporting you, with guidance and encouragement,
to make that change. It depends on: |
• a strong, honest, open relationship
between client and coach – so you can
talk freely without fear of being
criticised or laughed at;
• rapport from being on a similar wavelength
– so you know you will be understood;
• trust – so you don’t worry
about what you say and how you say it;
• flexibility – so you can fit it
in with your busy schedule;
• being non-judgemental, non-critical
and 100 per cent confidential – coaches
accept you as you
are and never pass on information
to employers, colleagues or anyone else;
• being non-directive – your coach
does not lead you or tell you what to do but
assists you in
discovering your own path and creating
your own actions; it is very much about you
and
what works best for you, not what
works best for the coach;

|
| How does
coaching work in practice? |
| Most coaches offer a range of services and methods
knowing that, if it is to work, coaching needs to
fit in with a pattern that works best for you. With
us, coaching is: |
• face to face or by telephone;
• at your place of work, at your home
or at another convenient location;
• during the working day, in the evening
or sometimes at weekends;
• in individual sessions from an hour
to up to three hours long at a time;
• a continual process, over as short or
as long a period as suits you, until you achieve
the
goals you want to achieve;
• focused on identifying actions and setting
objectives, as determined session by session
by you;
• based on mutually agreed ground rules,
on how best to work together.

|
| What does
coaching achieve? |
| Coaching brings insight and clarity to a situation,
pinpointing, with accuracy and skill, the underlying
factors that affect your thinking and actions. It
helps you draw up achievable goals and plans, so
you make the changes you want to make and which
will last for life. It achieves: |
• a long-term return on your investment
in yourself – improving your performance
and long term motivation at
work, and elsewhere;
• solutions which you might never have
thought possible – or even at all –
to situations you
were not previously able to
tackle or overcome;
• improved self-confidence, self-esteem
and self-belief – helping you make positive
decisions
in any situation;
• improvements in your life generally
– guaranteed!

|
| What coaching
is not… |
| Coaching is not counselling or therapy. While
it is important for a coach to understanding how
your past has created your present, the focus of
every session will be on where you are now and where
you want to be in the future. |
